Thirty is not an expiry date
The internet has a talent for turning birthdays into deadlines. It can make dating after thirty seem like an emergency requiring a new wardrobe, better photographs and a frantic subscription to three apps. In reality, many people enter their thirties with a clearer idea of how they want to live. They have routines worth protecting. They have learned what drains them. That is useful information, not a disadvantage.
Be selective about the right things
A good filter is not an impossible list. Distinguish what shapes daily life — kindness, reliability, availability, compatible plans — from details you might have inherited from friends, social media or an old idea of your future. Someone who does not share your taste in films might still be wonderfully easy to live with. Someone who says all the right things but cannot make plans might not be.
Make dating fit the life you already have
You do not need to treat every evening as an opportunity for a date. Choose one or two evenings each week for browsing or meeting, and keep the rest for friends, exercise, work and rest. A fuller life tends to make dating feel less like a verdict. You are looking for someone who fits into it, not auditioning to become a different person.
