A reply time is not a personality test

It is tempting to turn online dating into signal analysis. Four hours without a reply becomes a theory. A shorter message becomes evidence of fading interest. But people have jobs, families, bad days and different habits with their phones. One quiet afternoon does not mean much. A pattern of one-sided effort over several exchanges means more.

Look at the direction of the conversation

Ask rather than invent a story

You may not get the reply you hoped for, but you will get back some of your attention. Cynicism often grows where directness could have ended the guessing.
